July 9, 2022

Good afternoon Grace Family! I pray this email finds all of you well!

I'm beginning this email with two encouragements. One encouragement is to attend Grace's annual Ministry Celebration Event next Sunday. The details of the event are below. The reason I'm encouraging you to attend is because this event offers a key piece of Grace's mission: community. We, as Christians (and simply as people), need the presence of others in our lives. We benefit from that. We have the blessing of community from God in our congregation. So let's come out on a Sunday afternoon and be encouraged by each other's presence!

The second encouragement that I'm offering is that you consider participating in tomorrow's Sunday Bible Study, as well as next week's. The subject matter is the recent Supreme Court decisions in a number of areas having to do with religion. A number of Grace folks have asked for a discussion on these matters. The Sunday Bible Study facilitator, Bryan Killian, has laid out a helpful path forward for such a discussion. As the group looks at recent Supreme Court decisions that are important to Christians, the group will start with Kennedy, a case about what public employers can do when public employees pray on the job. Then the group will discuss Dobbs, where the Supreme Court overruled 50 years of cases recognizing a constitutional right to an abortion. The legal background of each case will be explained, what the Court held, and end with a discussion about what each case means for Christians in the coming months and years.

Tomorrow Grace will offer in-person worship at 8:00 a.m., 9:30 a.m., 11:15 a.m., and 12:30 p.m.

Grace will live stream tomorrow's worship at 9:30 a.m. (English Traditional Service), 11:15 a.m. (English Contemporary Service), and 12:30 p.m. (Spanish Service). You can find the English live streams at gracefallschurch.org/stream. You can find the Spanish live streams here.

Summer Sunday School will meet tomorrow in the classrooms at 9:30 a.m.

The Sunday Bible Study will meet tomorrow at 9:30 a.m. in Classroom 4.

TOMORROW AT 9:30 WORSHIP: GCA's new Grades 7-8 teacher, Jacob Price, will be installed. Following that, Grace will host a welcome reception for Jacob at 10:30 a.m. in the Fellowship Room. You are invited to the reception to welcome Jacob to Grace!

Summer Bible Study: The Gospel According to Peter. When reading the Bible, we spend a lot of time in the Gospels: Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John. And for good reason – these books are the words and works of Jesus while he was on earth. But when is the last time you read Peter? Peter’s epistles are worth reading and reviewing often. They contain practical advice for Christians living in a sinful world. More than that, they remind us of the remedy for this sinful world: the Gospel. Come study Peter’s epistles and hear the wonderful Gospel message from of one of Jesus’ disciples!

The Gospel According to Peter Bible Study will begin with a catered meal at 6:30 p.m. The study itself will go from 7:00 – 8:00 p.m. Childcare will be offered free-of-charge. To sign up for childcare or the meal—or if you have questions—please reach out to Vicar Josh at koelpin@gracefallschurch.org / 507-766-0674.

The Gospel According to Peter Bible Study will meet on Thursdays: July 14 and July 21.

Welcome Pantry Shower for Jacob Price (GCA new 7th & 8th Grade Teacher). Grace will collect non-perishable household goods (cleaning supplies, paper goods, canned and boxed foods, etc.) as a means of welcoming Jacob. If you wish to give a gift card to a local retailer or grocery store instead of actual "goods," you are welcome to do that. If you wish to contribute, items will be collected at Grace from tomorrow through Sunday, July 17. Place them on the table in the Fellowship Room marked "Welcome Jacob Price!"

Sunday, July 17 at 5:00 p.m.: Ministry Celebration Event & Voters Meeting. The Ministry Celebration Event is a time when we will come together to give thanks to God for, and celebrate, his recent blessings to Grace! We will do this by gathering for a meal, a brief (very brief!) service of thanksgiving, time to enjoy each other’s company in the great summer outdoors—and round out the event with the Mid-Year Voters Meeting starting at 7:00 p.m.

Grace will provide grilled hamburgers and hot dogs--and all the fixins that go with them, as well as an assortment of beverages, paper plates, and plasticware. Attendees are encouraged to bring a food item to share (salad, fruit, chips, dessert item, etc.)

Good afternoon Grace Family! I pray this email finds you having a blessed Independence Day weekend!

So...why is there a picture of a pallet of asphalt shingles at the start of this UPDATE? And why is the pallet of shingles sitting in front of Grace's parking lot entrance?

It's going to be a busy upcoming week at Grace--facility-maintenance-wise. Grace's roof will be replaced, SEB Services will be doing floor maintenance, and interior painting will be happening. I'm letting you know these things in case you happen to stop by Grace Monday-Friday of this week and wonder what's going on. Also, I want to express huge thanks to Trustee Bill Hatzfeld for doing such a great job of coordinating maintenance for the facility with which God has blessed the congregation. Thanks, Bill!

Tomorrow Grace will offer in-person worship at 8:00 a.m., 9:30 a.m., 11:15 a.m., and 12:30 p.m.

Holy Communion will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. worship tomorrow.

Note: On Sundays July 10 and 17, the Sunday Morning Bible Study will be discussing the recent Supreme Court rulings on religion and the Dobbs opinion. You are invited to participate in this discussion!

Next Sunday, July 10, GCA's new Grades 7-8 teacher, Jacob Price, will be installed at 9:30 a.m. worship.

The Gospel According to Peter Bible Study will meet on Thursdays: July 7, July 14, and July 21.

Summer Snack Providers for Between Services. Grace is seeking individuals or families to provide and serve snacks for weeks they are available. If this is something you could do one or more weeks between now and September 4, please sign up on the bulletin board in Information Hall. I'm ending this UPDATE on a light-hearted, entertaining note. On March 10-13, GCA's 7th-8th graders traveled to Wisconsin to visit Luther Prep School, Wisconsin Lutheran High School, Wisconsin Lutheran College, and Wisconsin Lutheran Seminary. Along with those visits, the 7th & 8th graders also participated in a basketball tournament along with many other Lutheran schools. One GCA parent and trip chaperone, Giovanni Lizama, filmed and produced an excellent short video of GCA's basketball adventure. Watching this video will not only put a smile on your face, but it will also offer an example of the excellent work GCA is doing in shaping young Christians. You can watch the video, titled "Cracked," here.

The spring schedule for BASHES can be found on the group’s communication app (GroupMe). If you are a parent of a 6th-8th grader and have not yet signed up, please do so here.

Please feel free to make use of Grace's pastoral care (a visit to your home, private Communion, counseling, etc.). Pastor Satorius and I are more than willing to help you however we may be able to. Additionally, we have other volunteers who have stepped forward to offer a variety of kinds of assistance. Please don't hesitate to reach out!
