On August 18, 1962, the Wisconsin Synod received a request from several families to consider starting a mission congregation in the Washington, DC area, which became Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church.

On November 13, 1966, Grace dedicated its church building, and on August 31, 1975, Grace dedicated its education wing specifically built to house Grace Lutheran School that had begun two years earlier.

On March 17, 2002, the members of Grace re-dedicated their newly remodeled and expanded church and school.
